30 Fig Varieties, Over 100,000 Trees Support Agricultural Diversity in Qassim

Buraidah, July 6, 2026, SPA -- As part of the agricultural diversity witnessed in Qassim Region and the sector’s benefit from its natural resources and advancing farming practices, fig cultivation has emerged in recent years as one of the promising crops, alongside palm trees, peaches, grapes, melons, and watermelons for which the region is well known, supporting the food security system and aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
Qassim Region produces around 30 fig varieties through nearly 30 farms comprising more than 100,000 fig trees, including local and international varieties, reflecting the region’s success in diversifying its agricultural output and expanding the cultivation of crops with economic value.
In an interview with the Saudi Press Agency, farmer Mohammed Al-Hassan, who has eight years of experience in fig cultivation, attributed his interest in growing the crop to the availability of suitable environmental conditions in Qassim Region, in addition to the abundance of production and the quality of the fruit, which have contributed to the success of fig farming and its spread across the region.
Al-Hassan also noted growing interest among farmers in cultivating figs in Qassim Region due to the area’s favorable environmental conditions, along with the efforts of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture branch in the region in providing agricultural guidance, delivering lectures and awareness programs, and organizing extension tours, all of which contribute to improving farmers’ efficiency, developing their agricultural practices, and enhancing fig production.
