SDAIA President Discusses Saudi Arabia's Efforts to Strengthen International Cooperation on AI Ethics with UNESCO Director-General

Geneva, July 06, 2026, SPA -- Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) President Dr. Abdullah Alghamdi met today with Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Khaled El-Enany during Saudi Arabia's participation in the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, held on the sidelines of the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva from July 6 to 7.
The meeting reviewed strategic cooperation between the Kingdom and UNESCO in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as ways to strengthen international partnerships in developing ethical policies governing these advanced technologies. Alghamdi commended UNESCO's international efforts in this field.
He also highlighted the Kingdom's pivotal role in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, outlining Saudi Arabia's efforts in establishing the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), headquartered in Riyadh. Approved by UNESCO's General Conference as a Category 2 international center under its auspices, ICAIRE serves as a global hub for supporting research and development, promoting awareness of AI ethics, and building international capacities.
Alghamdi also reviewed the Kingdom's efforts to translate international principles into practical initiatives through programs led by SDAIA, including the launch of the AI Ethics Principles, the awarding of AI ethics labels to more than 60 companies across the Kingdom, and the introduction of the National AI Index to measure the maturity of AI adoption across government entities, ensuring responsible governance that supports human-centered innovation.
