Transportation Ministry participates in GCC logistics integration workshop in Riyadh

Riyadh, Jul. 7 (BNA): Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, Mayas Al Mutazbillah Al Agha, Assistant Undersecretary for Ports Affairs, and Abdullah Hassan Al Qadhi, Director of Air Transport Affairs, participated in the Enhancing Logistics Integration among GCC States workshop organised by the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The workshop was held at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh and opened with remarks by Khalid Ali Salem Al Sunaidi, Assistant Secretary General for Economic and Development Affairs, followed by a comprehensive presentation by the General Secretariat outlining the project's objectives and strategic goals.
The workshop was organised in implementation of the decision issued at the 29th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Transport and Communications, held on June 17, to follow up on the directives of the GCC leaders issued during the 19th Consultative Meeting on April 28. The directives focus on strengthening logistics integration among GCC member states, accelerating the implementation of the GCC railway project, enhancing connectivity with other countries, and providing more efficient and flexible transport options for goods and products across the region.
The workshop featured a series of discussion sessions. The first session, attended by representatives of the GCC member states, examined the current state of regional logistics integration, reviewed relevant international experiences and best practices, and discussed strategic and economic developments and the expected economic impact of closer logistics integration.
Participants also explored strategic and technical options for developing a proposed framework for logistics integration, scenarios for emergency logistics services, key indicators to measure regional logistics connectivity, and a clear implementation roadmap.
The session concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at unifying strategic visions and advancing the regional transport system.
The second session included participation from the project's consulting firm, which delivered a specialised technical presentation, followed by an interactive discussion focusing on the data required from member states to complete the technical and logistics studies supporting the GCC's economic integration and sustainable development objectives.
