Steps for Coping with Natural Disasters Taken in South Hamgyong Province of DPRK
Pyongyang, July 11 (KCNA) -- South Hamgyong Province in the DPRK is strengthening its ability to cope with natural disasters.
The province completed the planned dredging of riverbeds, consolidating of embankments, building of retaining walls and anti-land-sliding projects and is pushing ahead with the projects for building tide protection structures at the final stage.
The provincial land and environmental conservation bureau has pushed ahead with the project for consolidating embankments of the Songchon River. Sinhung, Yonggwang, Jongphyong and Kumya counties are speeding up the repair of anti-tidal dykes, irrigation waterways and irrigation facilities.
The Hungnam Fertilizer Complex, the February 8 Vinalon Complex and other units are pushing ahead with the production while finding out and eliminating dangerous factors at production sites and taking measures to prevent moisture from raw materials and equipment.
Hydro-power stations in the province are regulating the water level of dams on the basis of the expected precipitation, while overhauling and repairing generating, transmitting and transforming facilities, drainages, intermediate water intakes and flood gates.
Officials and workers of the Hamnam Area Coal-mining Complex are ensuring the safety of production during the rainy season while repairing the drainage system, conveyance lines of coal and the roofs of coal yards in a planned way and checking power plants in a meticulous way.
Meanwhile, the Sinpho City Offshore Farm, the Ragwon County Offshore Farm and other fishing units are taking measures to protect fishing boats, aquaculture grounds and coastal structures. -0-
