Malaysia’s Natural Rubber Production 9.1 Pct Up In May 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s natural rubber (NR) production increased by 9.1 per cent to 20,198 tonnes in May 2026 from 18,515 tonnes in April 2026.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), in its Monthly Rubber Statistics, May 2026 report, said NR production decreased by 16.7 per cent from 24,256 tonnes in May 2025.
“NR production in Malaysia in May 2026 was mainly contributed by smallholders, accounting for 89.4 per cent, compared with estates at 10.6 per cent,” it said.
DOSM said total NR stocks decreased by 6.2 per cent to 122,658 tonnes in May 2026 from 130,698 tonnes in April 2026.
“Rubber processing factories contributed 77.8 per cent of the stocks, followed by rubber consumer factories at 22.0 per cent and rubber estates at 0.2 per cent,” it said.
DOSM said Malaysia’s NR exports amounted to 28,741 tonnes in May 2026, a decrease of 23.1 per cent from 37,360 tonnes in April 2026.
“China remained the main destination for NR exports, accounting for 42.7 per cent of total exports in May 2026, followed by Germany at 14.6 per cent, the United States at 11.2 per cent, Turkiye at 4.3 per cent and India at 3.8 per cent.
“Export performance was supported by NR-based products such as rubber gloves, tyres, tubes and rubber thread,” it said.
It said rubber gloves were the main export item among rubber-based products, valued at RM1.2 billion in May 2026, a decrease of 14.1 per cent from RM1.4 billion in April 2026.
DOSM said the average monthly price of concentrated latex rose by 1.1 per cent to 763.16 sen per kilogramme (kg) in May 2026 from 754.69 sen per kg in April 2026.
Meanwhile, it said the average monthly price of scrap rubber increased by 8.2 per cent to 747.78 sen per kg in May 2026 from 691.26 sen per kg in April 2026.
