Malaysia Festival 2026 Showcases Nation's Rich Cultural Heritage In New York

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- Hundreds of visitors in New York City were treated to captivating sights, sounds and flavours of Malaysia at the Malaysia Festival 2026, which celebrated country's rich cultural heritage through traditional cuisine, multicultural performances and community games.

Organised by Consulate General of Malaysia in New York in partnership with Resorts World New York City last Saturday, the festival brought the vibrant spirit of 'Malaysia Truly Asia' to the cosmopolitan city in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) and the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America.

The Consulate General in a Facebook post, said the festival under the theme Malaysia Celebrates US250: Celebrating Friendship Through Culture, Cuisine and Community showcased Malaysian multicultural performances such as the lion, dragon and tiger dances, Indian fusion dance, Malay and Chinese dances.

Visitors also sampled a variety of popular Malaysian dishes, including nasi lemak, satay, laksa, roti canai, teh tarik and other traditional delicacies.

A “Sukan Rakyat” (traditional community games) zone gave guests opportunity to participate in interactive demonstrations of Malaysians beloved childhood games such as baling selipar, three legged race, lompat getah, congkak, and batu seremban.

Among the guests to the event was Senator for New York State Roxanne J. Persaud who had described the festival as “incredible” and “an absolute feast for the senses!”.

“From authentic, mouth-watering cuisine and live music to breathtaking cultural performances, traditional games, and family-friendly activities, the festival was a wonderful opportunity to experience the rich traditions and warmth of Malaysia right here in New York.

“A massive thank you to the amazing team at Resorts World NYC for the gracious invitation. We are so grateful for the hospitality and the unforgettable memories!,” she said in a Facebook post.
