Foreign Minister meets Danish counterpart

Manama, Jul. 14 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, on the sidelines of the GCC–EU Regional Security and Cooperation Forum.

The meeting reviewed the longstanding ties between Bahrain and Denmark and explored means to expand bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, and development domains. The two ministers also discussed enhancing GCC–EU cooperation and strengthening coordination during Bahrain's and Denmark's membership of the United Nations Security Council in support of international peace and security.

They further exchanged views on regional developments, including the implications of the recent Iranian attacks against Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, threats to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and ongoing efforts to preserve regional security and stability.

Dr. Al Zayani and Minister Rasmussen reaffirmed their condemnation of the recent attacks in the Gulf region, expressed solidarity with the affected countries and seafarers, and stressed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to international navigation. They also underscored that no state should control the Strait or impose transit fees, reaffirming the shared interest of maritime nations in safeguarding freedom of navigation.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammed Ali Behzad, Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union.
