PM Proposes 3 AI Governance Pillars at Shanghai Summit

SHANGHAI, July 17 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul proposed three core pillars for global artificial intelligence governance on Friday, urging nations to balance technological advancement with human rights at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
Speaking at the summit’s opening ceremony in Shanghai, attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and other world leaders, Anutin outlined the pillars: protecting people, unlocking AI potential, and building shared prosperity.
"AI must serve humanity," Anutin said, emphasizing that regulations must protect human dignity and privacy while addressing algorithmic bias. He added that proper AI governance should foster innovation through digital infrastructure and predictable regulations without hindering development.
The summit marks the beginning of Anutin’s first official visit to China, aiming to deepen ties in trade, investment, and high technology across three major cities: Shanghai, Chengdu, and Beijing.
Later on Friday, Anutin is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, meet with Chinese robotics firm AgiBot, and hold a high-profile meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The prime minister's four-day itinerary also includes investment forums in Chengdu and visits to Chinese tech giants, including Huawei and Alibaba, before concluding with full bilateral talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Monday. -819 (TNA)
