S. Korean female climber's body brought home after Himalaya accident
INCHEON, July 19 (Yonhap) -- The body of a female South Korean climber, who died
after falling from a cliff while descending a peak in the Himalayas earlier this
month, was brought home on Sunday.
On the arrival at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, the late Ko
Mi-young's body was loaded into a hearse and was moved to the National Medical
Center in central Seoul.
Ko, 41, lost her footing and fell to her death while descending from the summit
of the 8,126-meter Nanga Parbat on July 11.
On July 16, her teammates found Ko's body in a ravine some 100 meters away from
the Messner route and moved it to the team's base camp.
Scaling Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, in 2007, Ko conquered 11 out of
the 14 highest Himalayan peaks over 8,000 meters and was planning to tackle
Gasherbrum???, Gasherbrum II and Annapurna.
Her body will be cremated Tuesday and her ashes will later be scattered by her
fellow climbers at the three Himalayan mountains which she didn't climb.
