New-flu cases top 4,000 in Japan+


TOKYO, July 19 Kyodo -
The number of cases of the new type of influenza has topped 4,000 in Japan, the
Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry said Sunday.
There have been no serious cases reported since the first infections in Japan
were confirmed in May, the ministry said.
However, infections have continued to spread, with Kanazawa University in
Ishikawa Prefecture reporting the same day that 22 cases were newly found at
the university.
With one infection case reported Saturday, the school now has a total of 23
students infected with the new flu.
