Indonesia reaffirms support for Palestinian cause

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia reiterated its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people during a meeting between Foreign Minister Sugiono and Palestine's Social Development Minister, Samah Hamad.
"Our support is conveyed not only through persistent political and diplomatic backing, but also through the provision of humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people," Sugiono stated during his bilateral meeting with Hamad on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) in the Philippines on Wednesday.
According to a ministry statement confirmed on Saturday, Sugiono told Hamad that besides providing social aid, Indonesia also supports capacity-building efforts for the Palestinian Authority and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip following years of Israeli genocidal aggression.
"It reflects Indonesia's firm support as a partner for Palestine," the foreign minister stressed.
On the same occasion, Minister Hamad informed Sugiono about the latest updates and challenges faced by the Palestinian people, conveying her government's gratitude for Indonesia's continued solidarity and support.
While commending all humanitarian aid initiatives by the private sector and the public in Indonesia, Hamad also expressed hope that the assistance would be coordinated with the Palestinian Authority to ensure its optimal distribution.
She urged Indonesia to continue playing a strategic role in supporting the Palestinian cause in international forums, especially in calling for the unimpeded distribution of humanitarian aid.
According to the Palestinian Authority, over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and 3,200 others injured due to daily Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, despite a ceasefire agreed upon earlier this year.
Palestine also recorded that Israel's genocidal aggression in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has killed over 73,000 people and injured 173,000 others.
