Glasgow 2026: Malaysia 3x3 Side Make Winning Debut With Three Straight Victories

GLASGOW, July 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s national men’s 3x3 basketball team made a historic Commonwealth Games debut by chalking up three consecutive victories in Group B at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) here on Saturday.

Represented by Chong Zhen Yang, Chang Zi Fueng, Ting Chun Hong and Ooi Xian Fu, the national side opened their Glasgow 2026 campaign with a 21-16 win over Fiji to record Malaysia’s first victory in the event at the Commonwealth Games.

The triumph spurred the national side on as they went on to defeat Kenya 21-15 before capping a memorable night with another 21-15 victory over neighbouring Singapore to preserve their perfect record after three matches.

The three straight wins put Malaysia in a strong position in the race for a place in the knockout stage, while keeping alive the team’s target of reaching at least the semi-finals.

Malaysia, making their debut in the men’s 3x3 event at the Games, are drawn in Group B alongside England, Fiji, Jamaica, Kenya and Singapore.

The national side will face England before wrapping up their group campaign against Jamaica, with both matches scheduled for tomorrow (July 27).

Under the competition format, the winner of each group will advance directly to the semi-finals, while the teams finishing second and third will have to go through the quarter-finals.

The 3x3 basketball event made its Commonwealth Games debut at Birmingham 2022.
