Glasgow 2026: Abdul Halim Advances To Final As Other Malaysian Swimmers Miss Out

 GLASGOW, July 27 (Bernama) -- National para swimmer Abdul Halim Mohammad was the only Malaysian to qualify for a final during the morning session of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre here today.

Abdul Halim finished third in heat one of the men’s SB9 100 metre (m) breaststroke with a time of 1 minute 16.82 seconds (s), behind New Zealand’s Joshua Willmer (1:11.99s) and Australia’s Timothy Hodge (1:13.60s).

The Sabahan, who won five gold medals at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games, is scheduled to compete in the final tonight (early Tuesday morning Malaysian time).

In the able-bodied swimming events, Tan Khai Xin failed to reach the men’s 200m butterfly final after finishing sixth in heat two with a time of 2:07.37s.

Lim Yin Chuen and Arvin Shaun Singh Chahal also missed out on the men’s 100m freestyle semi-finals, respectively.

Yin Chuen placed seventh in heat six with 51.19s, while Arvin finished seventh in heat seven in 51.08s.

Meanwhile, Khiew Hoe Yean won the slower heat of the men’s 800m freestyle timed final after clocking 8:04.47s.

However, his chances of winning a medal appear slim because every swimmer in the faster heat, which will be held later today, has a better entry time.

The final standings for the event will only be confirmed after the faster heat is completed.
