Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) has moved quickly to reassure financial markets following the unexpected resignation of Governor Perry Warjiyo, with Acting Governor Destry Damayanti pledging policy continuity and active intervention to safeguard the rupiah.

Speaking to reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex on Monday (July 27) after meeting with President Prabowo Subianto, Destry urged market participants to remain confident, emphasizing that the central bank’s monetary and financial system stability policies remain unchanged.

"For the market, of course, we hope there is no need to panic. Bank Indonesia will continue to implement the policies that we have carried out previously," she said.

She emphasized that the central bank’s primary focus remains maintaining the stability of the rupiah exchange rate as a key pillar of its monetary framework.

To curb potential market volatility, BI will maintain an active presence across multiple trading channels, including the spot market, non-deliverable forwards (NDF), and domestic non-deliverable forwards (DNDF).

Beyond defending the currency, BI will maintain its growth-oriented macroprudential stance.

Reaffirming the outcomes of the recent July Board of Governors Meeting (RDG), Destry highlighted ongoing measures to attract foreign capital inflows by providing incentives aimed at reducing hedging costs for international investors.

Addressing concerns over central bank governance during the leadership transition, she emphasized that BI operates under a shared leadership structure.

"Leadership at Bank Indonesia is carried out collectively and collegially," she said, assuring investors that the Board of Governors remains fully committed to carrying out the institution’s mandates and that its duties will continue without interruption.

"We certainly hope that stability in our financial markets will recover and return to normal swiftly," Destry concluded.
