Iran, Brazil stress support for international law and principles of UN Charter

Tehran, IRNA – The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Brazil have emphasized the need for close cooperation and coordination among developing countries in international forums to counter unilateralism and support international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira held a telephone conversation on bilateral relations and international developments.
The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Brazil emphasized the need for close cooperation and coordination among developing countries in international forums to counter unilateralism and support international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Referring to the US military attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of the Venezuelan president and his wife, Araghchi condemned this action as a gross violation of the UN Charter and the fundamental rules of international law.
Warning about the dangerous consequences and outcomes of the US bullying for the rule of law in international relations, Araghchi emphasized that these unilateral actions severely jeopardize the foundations of the order based on international law and normalize the use of force.
While confirming the principled position of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Brazilian foreign minister considered the US action in kidnapping the president of an independent country a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and announced that this issue would be pursued at meetings of the Security Council, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
