Malaysia Scheduled To Receive Visits From Cambodian And Laotian Leaders Next Week

REMBAU (Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia), Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan is scheduled to receive visits from Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, as well as Laos' Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister next week for Malaysia's Joint Commission Meetings with the two countries.

Mohamad said Malaysia will host the Malaysia-Cambodia Joint Commission Meeting this year, with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister scheduled to pay an official visit on Tuesday.

“Next week, I will also receive the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Laos. This year, Malaysia is hosting the Joint Commission Meeting,” he told reporters after voting at SJKC Chung Hua in Rantau Saturday.

Mohamad said he had originally been scheduled to attend an emergency meeting of Arab and Islamic countries in Amman, Jordan, on Aug 5 to discuss developments in Palestine, but would be unable to do so due to official commitments in Malaysia.

He said Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, currently the Deputy Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry, will represent the country instead.

“He is very knowledgeable and well-versed in Palestinian issues, and [will represent us] as I am unable to make the trip,” he added.

The foreign minister noted that Wisma Putra is currently facing a tight schedule amid uncertain global geopolitical developments.

“Work at Wisma Putra amid the uncertain global geopolitical situation requires extensive consultations, including unscheduled and emergency meetings.

"There are many incoming visits, and I also need to travel abroad frequently," he said.
