Bahrain deposits instrument of accession to WIPO Locarno Agreement

Geneva, Aug. 2 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain deposited its instrument of accession to the Locarno Agreement Establishing an International Classification for Industrial Designs at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its intellectual property framework and aligning its national legislation with international best practices.

Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva, and Maryam Abdulaziz Al Doseri, Commercial Attaché at the Permanent Mission of Bahrain in Geneva, were present.

The Locarno Agreement, administered by WIPO, establishes a unified international classification system for industrial designs, facilitating the registration and administration of industrial design rights while promoting consistency and international cooperation among intellectual property offices.

Bahrain’s accession to the Agreement underscores the Kingdom’s continued commitment to enhancing its intellectual property system, fostering innovation and creativity, and creating an enabling environment for investment and economic growth, in line with Bahrain’s sustainable development objectives.

The Kingdom reaffirms its commitment to supporting international cooperation in intellectual property and contributing to the development of a more effective global intellectual property system that promotes innovation and protects intellectual property rights.
