Malaysians Remain Indonesia's Top Source Of Foreign Visitors In H1 2026

JAKARTA, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Indonesia recorded 7.45 million foreign visitor arrivals in the first half of 2026, the highest January-June total since 2020, with Malaysians remaining the country's largest source of international tourists.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono said the January-June figure represented a 5.71 per cent increase from the same period last year, reflecting the continued recovery of the country's tourism sector.

"The largest number of international visitors were those holding Malaysian passports, accounting for 18.66 per cent, followed by Singapore at 12.25 per cent and Australia at 12.08 per cent," he said during an online press conference on Monday.

Ateng said Indonesia welcomed 1.39 million international visitors in June, up 0.32 per cent from May but down 2.15 per cent from the same month last year.

Among the country's three largest source markets, arrivals by Malaysian passport holders declined month on month in June, while those from Singapore and Australia increased.

On a year-on-year basis, however, arrivals from Malaysia and Australia rose, while those from Singapore declined, he said.
