LG, Nvidia to unveil humanoid in next Q1

SEOUL, Aug. 14 (Yonhap) -- LG Electronics Inc. said Friday it will unveil a next-generation humanoid robot capable of bipedal walking, based on Nvidia Corp.'s robotics platform, in the first quarter of 2027.

The South Korean tech giant said it signed a memorandum of understanding at Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, California, with LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Nvidia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jensen Huang in attendance.

The robot will be equipped with Nvidia's Jetson Thor robotics chip module and developed based on Nvidia's Isaac GR00T humanoid foundation model and Holoscan for Robotics, a robotics safety system.

LG plans to integrate technologies and capabilities from its key affiliates into the robot, including actuators from LG Electronics, sensors from LG Innotek Co. and batteries from LG Energy Solution Ltd.

The two companies will also begin full-scale cooperation in three areas -- robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) factories and mobility.

Earlier, LG announced its vision to consolidate the key capabilities needed to commercialize robotics, which the company considers one of its flagship future businesses in the emerging physical AI industry.
