S. Korea, Europe agree to share info on tech standardization
SEOUL, July 20 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has agreed with two European organizations
to share information on technology standardization and related policies as part
of an effort to make exporting products less complicated, Seoul officials said
Monday.
The information sharing pact was agreed upon in Brussels on July 7 between South
Korea's Ministry of Knowledge Economy, the European Committee for Standardization
and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, according to
ministry officials.
The two private organizations determine detailed standardization policies for
European countries, though the European Commission enacts tech regulations, they
explained.
Under the agreement, both sides promised to hold a plenary meeting and a joint
workshop every year to share information on tech regulations and standardization
polices.
"Thanks to the pact, South Korea will be able to gain access to information on
technology regulations in Europe on a regular basis," the ministry said in a
statement. "It is also meaningful to open a channel through which we can resolve
inconveniences or queries raised by our companies in relation with European
standards."
The move is part of South Korea's efforts to expand such collaboration with
European countries. The ministry said that it signed similar deals with Norway
and Sweden on July 10 and July 13, respectively.
