HD Hyundai Heavy launches Peruvian naval landing support vessel

SEOUL, Aug. 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. said Wednesday it has launched a landing support vessel jointly built with SIMA, Peru's state-owned shipyard, for the Peruvian Navy.
The shipbuilder and SIMA held a launching ceremony for the BAP Chimbote, the first of two new landing support vessels, at SIMA's shipyard in Peru.
The ceremony was attended by Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori, senior Peruvian government and naval officials, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries President Joo Won-ho.
In 2024, the South Korean shipbuilder secured an order to build four vessels for the Peruvian Navy, comprising a frigate, an offshore patrol vessel and two landing support vessels.
The second landing support vessel, the BAP Talara, completed onshore construction earlier this month, according to the company.
Under the project, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is responsible for vessel design and technical support, while SIMA handles block production, assembly, testing and sea trials.
