Iran, Indonesia discuss developing environmental cooperation

Tehran, IRNA — Head of Iran’s Department of Environment Shina Ansari and Indonesia’s Minister of Environment Muhammad Jumhur Hidayat have reviewed the development of environmental cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the BRICS Environment Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi.
Ansari stressed the shared environmental capacities of Iran and Indonesia, and the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation, exchanging experiences and technical knowledge, and expanding expert-level collaboration.
She underlined protecting biodiversity, natural habitats, forests, water resources, marine ecosystems, climate change, and waste management.
Meanwhile, Hidayat emphasized the expansion of specialized and technical environmental interactions between the two countries.
He referred to Indonesia’s efforts in combating plastic pollution and underscored the importance of cooperation and consensus among countries on operational mechanisms for waste management, especially in coastal areas.
The two sides also stressed the continuation of consultations and the use of multilateral mechanisms, particularly BRICS, to expand environmental cooperation.
The 12th BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting was on Tuesday, August 18th, in New Delhi.
This meeting took place within the framework of India’s 2026 BRICS chairmanship under the theme: ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration, and Sustainability.
