Nan Floods Stabilize But Municipality Remains Inundated

NAN, Aug 20 (TNA) - Floodwaters in Nan municipality have begun to stabilize, though several commercial zones and low-lying areas remain submerged as authorities accelerate water drainage operations.

Water overflowing from the Nan River flooded parts of the downtown area, including Wat Phumin, a major cultural landmark. In key commercial streets and low-lying communities, flood levels ranged between 30 centimeters and one meter.

Municipal authorities are operating large-capacity pumps around the clock to drain water back into the Nan River after levels dropped slightly below embankment walls. However, riverside areas remain heavily inundated.

Nan Governor Chainarong Wongyai said officials are closely monitoring the situation. While the flooding is expected to be less severe than previous major events, downstream districts including Phu Phiang and Wiang Sa have been advised to remain on alert for potential overflow. -819 (TNA)
