Malaysia, Pakistan Strengthen Security, Law Enforcement Ties
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Pakistan continue to strengthen their longstanding ties through cooperation in security and law enforcement, Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
In a Facebook post Friday, Saifuddin Nasution said the issue was discussed during bilateral talks with Pakistan’s Federal Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, on his two-day official visit to Islamabad, which began Thursday.
He said the talks covered police cooperation, intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism, drug and cross-border crime prevention, cybersecurity, immigration, human trafficking, prisoner management and maritime enforcement.
“This visit is not only about strengthening the existing ties between Malaysia and Pakistan. It also allows us to broaden cooperation and share our experience in security and law enforcement, as increasingly complex security challenges require closer cooperation between countries.
“The meeting provides an opportunity to identify practical, high-impact areas of cooperation and turn them into clear follow-up actions,” he said.
Saifuddin Nasution stated that the two sides had also agreed in principle to establish a working group between the ministries to coordinate follow-up efforts and ensure that agreed-upon areas of cooperation are implemented in a more structured and effective manner.
He also praised Pakistan’s role in facilitating international dialogue aimed at promoting regional peace and stability, while sharing Malaysia’s experience in helping facilitate negotiations to resolve the Thailand-Cambodia border dispute.
On the first day of his visit, Saifuddin Nasution was accorded a guard of honour by the Federal Constabulary before laying a wreath and reciting Al-Fatihah at the Martyrs’ Memorial in remembrance of those who had given their lives for the country.
He later visited Islamabad Police Lines, where he attended a special parade and met officers and personnel from the Islamabad Police.
In the post, Saifuddin Nasution thanked his hosts for the invitation, warm hospitality and arrangements made throughout the visit, and conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
