Thai PM Reaffirms Support for Japanese Auto Investors

WELLINGTON, Aug 21 (TNA) - Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul dismissed reports that Japanese carmakers are moving production bases from Thailand to Indonesia, reiterating the government's commitment to long-standing investors.
Speaking during a visit to New Zealand, Anutin said the government prioritizes all foreign investors, particularly Japan, which has long used Thailand as a primary manufacturing hub. He emphasized that Thailand is open to refining business regulations to maintain strong trade relations and preserve Japan's automotive production base.
Japanese brands account for most vehicles assembled in Thailand, making this relationship essential to preserve, Anutin said.
Anutin added that he tasked Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas with reviewing electric vehicle (EV) investment policies to ensure fair conditions for traditional Japanese automakers venturing into the sector.
He noted that foreign direct investment surpassed 1 trillion baht last year, indicating sustained investor confidence without signs of relocation. - 819 (TNA)
