Bomb defused at Pattani bus terminal

PATTANI, Feb 6 (TNA) - Thai explosives experts on Thursday neutralized an improvised explosive device (IED) discovered in a women’s restroom at the Pattani provincial bus terminal, officials said.

The device, found hidden in a toilet by a security guard late Wednesday, was destroyed using a high-pressure water disrupter on Thursday morning after security forces cordoned off the area.

Military investigators said the IED was housed in a small stainless steel bottle and featured a dual-trigger system, consistent with three other devices recently recovered from public spaces in the region.

The design—separating the explosive charge from the circuitry—mirrors a device found earlier at a local petrol station.

Gen. Chaiyapruek Duangpraphat, Army Chief of Staff, visited the site to oversee the investigation and emphasized the need for heightened security measures, particularly in public spaces which insurgents have targeted to cause civilian distress.

No injuries were reported, and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attempted attack.

Authorities believe additional explosive devices may remain hidden in other public areas. Business owners and residents are urged to conduct thorough inspections of their premises and immediately report any suspicious objects to the officials. -819 (TNA)
