KELANTAN PRINCE FILES US$29.6 MILLION DEFAMATION SUIT AGAINST MANOHARA

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) -- The Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan, Tengku
Muhammad Fakhry Sultan Ismail Petra, filed a US$29.6 million (RM105 million)
suit against his wife and mother-in-law Monday for defaming him at a news
conference.

The suit was filed at the Civil High Court registry by his counsel, Mohd
Haaziq Pillay.

Tengku Muhammad Fakhry named his mother-in-law, Daisy Fajarina, and his
wife, Mahohara Odelia Pinot, as defendants.

The suit was filed after senior assistant registrar Safarudin Tambi allowed
his application Monday to commence defamation proceedings against the two.

In his statement of claim, the Kelantan prince said the defendants had
falsely
and maliciously made defamatory remarks about him regarding sexual abuse on
Manohara at a news conference between April and June this year.

He claimed that the alleged defamatory remarks were re-published in the
electronic media like The Jakarta Globe, Banjarmasin Post, Detiknews,
Kompas.com, Global TV and Malaysiakini, as well as widely reported in newspapers
in Malaysia and Indonesia.

The words were planned to belittle him and embarrass him among members of
the Kelantan royal household, the Malaysian government and the people, he said.

He further claimed that the insinuations were untrue, unfounded and had
caused severe damage to his personal reputation nationally and internationally.

"The defendants were motivated by financial gain in uttering those words,"
he claimed.

Tengku Muhammad Fakhry is seeking aggravated and exemplary damages and
compensation totalling RM105 million, interest, costs and an injunction tor
estrain the two defendants from further uttering the alleged defamatory words.

Outside the courtroom, Mohd Haaziq told reporters that he would follow up
with service of the writ on Manohara and Daisy who are now in Indonesia.

"They have 21 days to enter an appearance after service. Anyone can say
anything but do they have proof? This is the time for them to come forward and
prove their allegations,he said.

Tengku Muhammad Fakhry, 31, and Manohara, 17, who holds the title Cik Puan
Temenggong, marrried on Aug 26 last year and lived in Mahkota Palace (Istana
Mahkota), Kubang Kerian, Kelantan (east coast state in Peninsular Malaysia).

Nine months after the wedding, Manohara suddenly returned to Indonesia
without the permission or knowledge of the prince who is the Sultan of
Kelantan's third son.

On July 5, Tengku Muhammad Fakhry filed two summonses at the Kota Baharu
Syariah low and high courts demanding that his wife return to him and retun
RM972,750 (US$274,218) which she owed him before and after the marriage.
