Malaysia Boosts Public Sector AI Capabilities via Digital Ministry–AWS Collaboration

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is advancing its ‘AI-Enabled Government’ agenda through a strategic collaboration between the Digital Ministry and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in the public sector and empower civil servants via intelligent automation.

The initiative, implemented by the National AI Office (NAIO) in partnership with the AWS AI Academy, supports the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 and the ‘Towards an AI Nation 2030’ agenda, focusing on building public sector capacity for responsible technology adoption.

In a statement on Thursday, the Digital Ministry said the programme marks the first regional rollout of the AWS AI Academy for the public sector, with Malaysia selected for its clear policy direction and readiness to implement advanced digital technologies responsibly.

The programme includes interactive sessions such as a Service Design Workshop, where officers develop technology-driven service frameworks, and policy labs that allow participants to test policy scenarios using comparative case studies.

“These activities provide a sandbox learning environment, enabling participants to explore agency-specific challenges, exchange views and strengthen whole-of-government understanding of technology integration,” the statement said.

The ministry added that the programme also aims to enhance policy capabilities for data-driven decision-making, deepen understanding of emerging technologies and governance, and improve applied digital skills to boost productivity and operational efficiency.
