Thai PM Pledges Support After Women’s Volleyball Team Qualifies for 2028 Olympics

BANGKOK, Aug 31 (TNA) - Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul commended Thailand’s women’s national volleyball team on Monday following their historic victory at the 2026 Asian Championship, which secured their qualification for the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Speaking to reporters at Parliament, Anutin expressed pride over the team’s achievement, noting the stirring emotions of hearing the national anthem played during the championship ceremony. He emphasized that the victory brought pride to the nation and highlighted Thailand’s international potential beyond government-led efforts.

Anutin reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the country's youth and elite athletes in reaching their full potential. Asked about financial rewards for the team, Anutin lightheartedly queried reporters on what providing "maximum backing" would entail. -819 (TNA)
