Thai Civic Groups Rally at Election Commission Over Senate Election Fraud Probe

BANGKOK, Aug 31 (TNA) - Thai civil society groups gathered outside the Election Commission (EC) headquarters on Sunday to pressure the electoral body to indict 229 individuals accused of colluding in the 2024 Senate election.

The event, organized by the Internet Law Reform Dialogue (iLaw) and the Human Rights Lawyers Association, featured sports-themed symbolic activities and a human formation of the number "229." Demonstrators urged the EC to forward all 229 suspects identified in a subcommittee's investigative file to the Supreme Court.

Prominent political figures, including People’s Party MPs Parit Wacharasindhu and Chayapol Satondee, alongside Progressive Movement spokesperson Pannika Wanich, attended the rally in support.

iLaw Director Yingcheep Atchanont demanded the EC submit all 229 names to court, warning that the network would expose its own evidence against any individuals the commission fails to indict. 

The peaceful rally ended with organizers calling for public action ahead of a final demonstration on Sept. 13, one day before the EC’s scheduled decision. -819 (TNA)
