Indonesia's economy to remain solid despite disasters: Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa expressed confidence that Indonesia’s economy would remain solid in the third and fourth quarters of 2026 despite a series of disasters affecting several regions.

Speaking in Jakarta on Monday, he assured the public that the national budget remains safe and faces no significant problems.

“Regarding the economy, we can expect minor disruption, but it will not significantly slow down our economy,” Purbaya said.

The minister stressed that economic performance remains on track and aligned with the government’s target.

“In fact, we are ramping things up in the third and fourth quarters of the year,” said the state treasurer.

Regarding disaster mitigation, Purbaya said the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has a sufficient budget to support optimal response measures.

“The BNPB has a budget,” he said, underscoring the government’s recognition of the agency’s important role in various disaster management.

Nevertheless, he emphasized that the Finance Ministry does not rule out the possibility of providing BNPB with additional funds if necessary.

Separately, President Prabowo Subianto has called on residents in areas near erupting Mount Anak Krakatau to remain calm while increasing vigilance amid the risk of volcanic ash.

He urged the public to follow official instructions, avoid approaching the volcano, and observe designated danger zones and safety limits. In a statement on Sunday (Sept. 6), the president underscored the government’s monitoring of Mount Anak Krakatau’s activity.

The head of state also instructed BNPB, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the military, the police, the Health Ministry, the Transportation Ministry, and other relevant institutions to closely monitor the situation and ensure protection and assistance for the public.

Prabowo called on residents in affected areas to prioritize their health by wearing masks or other respiratory protection, limiting various outdoor activities, and following guidance from health officials and local governments.
