Iraq and Uzbekistan Discuss Agreement to Regulate Road Transport of Passengers and Goods

Baghdad / NINA / The Ministry of Transport confirmed today that communication and coordination between Iraqi and Uzbek authorities will continue in the coming period to finalize a draft agreement on road transport of passengers and goods, in a move aimed at serving the mutual interests of both countries and opening broader prospects for cooperation in the sector.

In a statement, the Ministry said that Murtada Al-Shahmani, Director General of the General Company for Land Transport, held a virtual meeting with the Uzbek side in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting focused on discussing a draft cooperation agreement on road transport of passengers and goods between Iraq and Uzbekistan, as part of efforts to expand international cooperation and develop the road transport sector.

The statement added that the meeting included a review of the draft agreement’s provisions, which were prepared by the Iraqi side, with the General Company for Land Transport contributing to the provisions concerning goods transport. The discussions aimed to reach a mutually agreed text that would help regulate and develop road transport operations and enhance trade exchange between the two countries.

Al-Shahmani noted that the meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Justice, as well as several departments within the Ministry of Transport and other relevant authorities. Participants exchanged views and observations on the agreement’s articles to ensure their compatibility with the legal and regulatory frameworks adopted by both countries.

The Ministry affirmed that communication and coordination with the Uzbek side would continue in the coming period to finalize the draft agreement and reach a mutually acceptable final text. / End
