Energy Ministry Wraps GasTech 2026, Securing $16 Bln Deals and 17-Nation Partnerships

BANGKOK, Sept 18 (TNA) — Thailand's Energy Ministry wrapped up the GasTech 2026 conference, generating over $16 billion in commercial deals and drawing more than 50,000 global participants during the four-day event in Bangkok.

Energy Minister Akanat Promphan said the event stimulated over 15 billion baht ($450 million) for the local economy through construction and employment. Thailand also used the platform to advance bilateral talks with 17 nations—including the U.S., Russia, Singapore, Brunei, Oman, and Libya—to discuss supply security amid ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Key outcomes included two major agreements:

  • U.S.-Thailand SMR Grant: The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) signed a deal with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to receive funding for a feasibility study on Small Modular Reactor (SMR) nuclear power.
  • Oman Partnership: Thailand signed a memorandum of understanding with Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals to promote energy trade, joint investments, and establish the Oman-Thailand Energy Policy Dialogue (OTEPD).

The ministry noted that these partnerships support Thailand's broader strategy to position itself as a regional LNG hub, expand green power for data centers and AI industries, and advance low-carbon technologies such as hydrogen, carbon capture, and the ASEAN Power Grid. -819 (TNA)
