Malaysia To Host 27th IIFA Conference From Nov 16-20

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will host the 27th International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) Conference in Putrajaya from Nov 16 to 20, bringing together Islamic scholars, intellectuals and experts from Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries.

Malaysia’s Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the conference, themed “Mensejahterakan Masyarakat dan Memperkasa Nilai Madani”, would be held in collaboration with IIFA to leverage the expertise of the Islamic world in addressing contemporary challenges and formulating solutions for the benefit of society and the ummah.

“Key issues to be addressed include artificial intelligence (AI), genetic editing and DNA technology, halal matters, healthcare and medical ethics, social and ethical challenges, communication and media in the digital era, as well as Islamic social finance,” he said in a statement today.
Zulkifli said the discussions would draw on Syariah sources and principles, with due consideration given to contemporary realities and guided by Maqasid al-Syariah (the objectives of Syariah), Ijtihad Jama’i (collective juristic reasoning) and Wasatiyyah (moderation).

He said that, in the context of Malaysia’s pluralistic society, the conference would also highlight Fiqh Ta'ayush (the jurisprudence of coexistence) as a foundation for fostering harmony, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

“Fostering this way of thinking is crucial to shaping a society grounded in knowledge, propriety, justice and the common good, while strengthening efforts to curb extremist and radical ideologies,” he said.

Zulkifli said the conference would further strengthen Malaysia’s role in the Islamic world’s scholarly and intellectual community, while providing an opportunity for the country to share its experience in developing Islamic institutions and managing a pluralistic society.

“As a government that upholds the values of knowledge and civilisation, we view this event as more than just a conference. It is an investment in the future of knowledge and the ummah, with the aim of generating ideas that can benefit humanity,” he said.
