Indonesia stresses infrastructure readiness for Kalimantan ACTS Corridor

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri stressed the importance of Indonesia's infrastructure readiness to support the Kalimantan Corridor under the ASEAN Customs Transit System (ACTS), targeted to begin operating in 2027.

According to a written statement received here on Monday, Putri said Indonesia continues to take steps to ensure national readiness, including ensuring the availability of the infrastructure needed to support the smooth implementation of the Borneo Corridors.

"We want to stress the importance of ensuring the availability of the necessary infrastructure, as well as legal and procedural readiness, to support the smooth implementation of the Kalimantan ACTS Corridor," Putri said at the 40th ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) Council Meeting in Manila.

She said infrastructure readiness is one of the important aspects for the Kalimantan ACTS Corridor to operate effectively once it is implemented.

In addition to infrastructure, the government is also ensuring legal and procedural readiness as part of its preparations.

The 40th AFTA Council Meeting on Saturday (Sept. 19) discussed developments in intra-ASEAN trade in goods.

The meeting also encouraged sectoral bodies under the coordination of the AFTA Council to implement the 2026-2030 Strategic Action Plan on Trade in Goods (TIG-SAP) in line with the agreed timeline.

At the meeting, Putri and other ASEAN economic ministers also pushed for the Declaration on the Provisional Application of the Second Protocol to Amend the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), along with its annexes.

The declaration is a follow-up to the mandate of the Leaders' Statement on the Response to the Middle East at the 48th ASEAN Summit on May 8, 2026, in Cebu, the Philippines.

It affirms the commitment of ASEAN member states to accelerate the implementation of the Upgraded ATIGA as part of efforts to facilitate intra-ASEAN trade activities.
