COMOROS VICE-PRESIDENT ON FIVE-DAY VISIT TO MALAYSIA



KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Vice-President of the Union of the
Comoros, Idi Nadhoim, will make a five-day working visit to Malaysia from
Tuesday to enhance bilateral ties between Moroni and Kuala Lumpur.

The Comoros is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, located off the eastern
coast of Africa, on the northern end of the Mozambique Channel, between northern
Madagascar and northeastern Mozambique.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) said that
during his visit, Idi would hold discussions with Malaysian leaders on areas of
common interest including cooperation in various fields.

He will make a courtesy call on Prime Minister Najib Razak and also meet
with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Energy, Green Technology and Water
Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui and the Petronas top management.

Idi, who will be leading a four-member delegation, is expected to discuss
Petronas' possible involvement in gas and oil exploration in the Comoros.

The Comoros is made up of three main islands, namely Grande Komoro, Anjouan
and Moheli, with Moroni as the capital. The majority of the population are
Muslims.

The country achieved independence from France in 1975.
