Iran, Nicaragua FMs hold talks on UNGA sidelines

New York, IRNA – Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has met with his Nicaraguan counterpart Valdrack Ludwing Jaentschke Whitaker on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During his stay in New York, Araghchi has held talks with dozens of his counterparts from various countries, as well as international figures, on the sidelines of the UNGA session.

Representatives from all 193 UN member states have gathered in New York from September 22 to 28, 2026, for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Under the official theme “Rebuilding Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All,” the session focuses on restoring trust between nations, strengthening multilateralism, and equipping international institutions to meet emerging challenges.

Key agenda items include global peace and security, human rights, sustainable development, climate change, sea-level rise, pandemic preparedness, and AI governance.

Beyond the formal speeches, the week features numerous high-level and bilateral meetings, making New York the epicenter of global diplomacy.
