Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Dies At 100

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) --  Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, wife of former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at the age of 100, on Monday.

Her death was confirmed by her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, when contacted by Bernama.

Dr Siti Hasmah is survived by her husband and seven children.

Malaysia has accorded Dr Siti Hasmah a State Funeral following her death.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he directed Chief Secretary to the Government  Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Chief of Defence Forces General Malek Razak Sulaiman to assist with funeral arrangements and conduct.

“On behalf of the MADANI Government and the people of Malaysia, I convey my profound sorrow and condolences on the passing of the late Dr Siti Hasmah, who breathed her last at IJN this morning. The nation will always remember her maternal figure and appreciate her contributions.

“I have directed the Chief Secretary to the Government and Chief of Defence Forces to assist with the arrangements and accord Allahyarham Tun Dr Siti Hasmah a State Funeral,” he said in a statement on Monday. 

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, also conveyed his condolences to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the entire family on Tun Dr Siti Hasmah’s passing. 

“My thoughts and prayers, together with those of my family, are with the family as they face this loss. May Allah SWT forgive all her sins, accept her good deeds and place her among the faithful. Al-Fatihah,” he said.
