Jeddah Ophthalmology Conference Calls for More Local Research, Early Diagnosis

   Jeddah, September 28, 2026, SPA -- The First Annual International Conference of the Saudi Society of Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery concluded in Jeddah on Saturday with recommendations to expand local and multicenter research, strengthen continuing medical education, and develop specialized training programs.
   The recommendations aim to generate scientific data that better reflect the needs of patients in Saudi Arabia. They emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific cooperation and exchanging expertise between specialists in Saudi Arabia and international experts, as well as fostering partnerships among scientific societies, universities, and healthcare institutions to advance education, scientific research, and clinical practice.
   In the field of dry eye and ocular surface diseases, the recommendations called for enhancing early diagnosis and comprehensive patient assessment, utilizing modern evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and employing advanced technologies to evaluate the cornea and ocular surface. These measures would help improve diagnostic accuracy and the selection of appropriate treatment plans.
   The conference also recommended keeping pace with advances in refractive surgery and improving cataract surgery practices through the exchange of expertise on the latest surgical techniques, intraocular lens power calculations, and the selection of the appropriate lens for each patient. It also called for supporting the training of young physicians and practitioners through workshops and educational programs.
