Al-Araji: Iraq Enters Key Phase as International Coalition Mission Ends, Moving Toward Stronger Bilateral Ties

BAGHDAD / NINA / — National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister Qasim Al-Araji said Iraq has reached an important milestone with the conclusion of the international coalition’s mission and the presence of its forces, paving the way for a new phase of bilateral relations with coalition countries that reinforces Iraq’s sovereignty and serves its national interests and the aspirations of its people.

In a statement, Al-Araji said the development comes as part of the negotiations and understandings that began on July 22, 2021, in which he said he had the honor of contributing during his previous tenure at the National Security Advisory.

He said Iraq has now reached an important stage in ending the international coalition’s mission and the presence of its forces, while transitioning toward bilateral relations with coalition countries based on shared interests and mutual respect.

Al-Araji noted that victory over the terrorist ISIS organization was achieved through the sacrifices of the Iraqi people and the bravery of the Iraqi armed forces across their various branches and formations, with support from the international coalition as well as brotherly and friendly countries.

He said Iraq appreciates and values the role played by the coalition and its supporting countries.

“The end of the coalition’s mission does not mean the end of the partnership,” Al-Araji said, stressing that it instead marks a transition toward more firmly established bilateral relations, while security and intelligence cooperation, information and expertise sharing, and capacity building will continue on the basis of mutual respect and common interests.

He added that the new phase of cooperation would contribute to strengthening security and stability and support the Iraqi people’s aspirations for sustainable peace, development and prosperity./ End
