Former Malaysian PM Dr Mahathir Admitted To IJN For Observation

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) Tuesday for observation, his son, Mokhzani, said.

Mokhzani said there was no cause for concern over his father’s condition, adding that the decision to admit him was made to allow him to be monitored following the passing of his mother, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

“He was admitted to IJN for observation. The past two days have been quite stressful for Dr Mahathir, but for now, he is okay and there is no cause for concern,” he said when contacted Wednesday.

Dr Siti Hasmah, 100, passed away at IJN on the morning of Sept 28 and was laid to rest at Pusara Negara (National Cemetery) in Precinct 20, Putrajaya, later that day with full State Funeral honours.

Another of Dr Mahathir’s sons, Mukhriz, had previously said that his father had been at IJN to accompany Dr Siti Hasmah throughout her treatment before she passed away.

Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah were married on Aug 5, 1956, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. The couple have seven children.
