Zamzam Water: Decades of Saudi Care and Service

Makkah, September 30, 2026, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s care for the blessed Zamzam water over the decades reflects one of the many forms of attention devoted to the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors. This care began during the era of King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, the Founding King, and continues today under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Over the years, the Zamzam water distribution system has evolved from traditional methods into an integrated system that employs advanced technologies and capabilities to preserve the water’s purity and quality and make it readily accessible to pilgrims and visitors to the Two Holy Mosques.
This continued care coincides with the Kingdom’s celebration of Saudi National Day, observed annually on September 23 to commemorate the unification of the Kingdom under King Abdulaziz and the development journey the country has undertaken since then across various fields, foremost among them serving the Two Holy Mosques and caring for their visitors.
Today, the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques continues its efforts to provide Zamzam water to visitors to both mosques through an integrated operational system that covers water provision and distribution, the maintenance of water containers and drinking points, as well as cleaning, bottling, and related services. These efforts are designed to meet the needs of the large numbers of worshippers, Umrah pilgrims, and visitors.
The scale of these services is reflected in operational figures. During peak seasons, daily Zamzam water consumption at the Two Holy Mosques reaches approximately 1,560,000 liters. The Two Holy Mosques have around 40,000 Zamzam water containers, and more than 1,530 workers provide related services, highlighting the scale of support for visitors.
Through these sustained efforts, the Kingdom continues its long-standing care for Zamzam water, which began during the era of the Founding King and developed throughout the reigns of successive Saudi kings. Today, this care has evolved into an advanced system that combines accumulated expertise with modern technologies, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to caring for the Two Holy Mosques and serving pilgrims and visitors.
