INDONESIA GRABS GOLD IN INTERNATIONAL BIOLOGY OLYMPIAD

Jakarta, Jul 20 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian team taking part in the the 20th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in Tsukuba, Japan, from July 12 to 18, 2009, managed to grab one gold medal.

The Indonesian foreign ministry disclosed in Jakarta Monday the gold medal was won by Anugerah Erlaut, XIIth class student of SMA Kharisma Bangsa, Tangerang.

In the 20th IBO which is concurrently held on the occasion of the 200 years of Charles Darwin, and 150 years of the publication of The Origin of Spesies, the Indonesian team also grabbed one silver by Irfan Haris, Xth class student of SMAN 1 in Pringsewu, Lampung, and one silver by Elbert Wijaya, 12th class student of SMANK 1 Penabur, Jakarta.

This year's IBO was followed by delegations from 56 countries, comprising 221 persons, plus 4 countries as observers.

The Indonesian team consisted of four students from different schools in Indonesia, in addition to Anugerah Erlaut,Irfan Haris and Elbert Wijaya, and also Danang Crysnanto, 11th class student of SMAN 1 in Wonogiri.

The four students were in the company of Indonesia's IBO team coaches Dr Agus Dana Permana, Dr Maelita R Moeis, Dr Devi Nandita Choesin, and Dr Iriawati.
