Opposition submits no-confidence motion against PM Anutin, Bhumjaithai ministers

BANGKOK, Oct 9 (TNA) - Thailand’s opposition bloc filed a 7-page no-confidence motion on Thursday against Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and 17 ministers—all belonging to the Bhumjaithai Party—citing allegations of corruption and abuse of power.

The motion was submitted to House Speaker Sophon Zarum by Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the People’s Party and leader of the opposition, alongside opposition MPs who gathered 145 signatures.

Natthaphong accused the administration of building a political network referred to as the "Blue Regime"—a nod to Bhumjaithai’s party color—alleging it aims to consolidate power across key state mechanisms, including Senate selection, local examinations, and independent oversight agencies.

The 18 targeted ministers face allegations of conflict of interest, budget mismanagement, policy failures regarding the cost of living and grey capital, and interference in regulatory agencies.

"The opposition prepared this motion based strictly on facts and evidence," Natthaphong said, addressing why no ministers from coalition partner Pheu Thai were named in the censure debate motion.

House Speaker Sophon confirmed the motion will undergo verification within a 14-day statutory timeframe before consulting the cabinet to set formal debate dates.

Responding to the motion, Prime Minister Anutin said the government is fully prepared to address the charges in parliament.

"Every cabinet member is ready to clarify these doubts to the public," Anutin told reporters. Asked about the motion focusing exclusively on Bhumjaithai ministers, he remarked, "It would be stranger if we were not included. We will use this opportunity to present all facts to the public." -819 (TNA)
