Ginkgo Tree at Koryo Songgyungwan University
Pyongyang, October 12 (KCNA) -- Two ginkgo trees (staminate) registered as natural monuments are growing at the Koryo Songgyungwan University in Kaesong Municipality.
The tree in the east is 31.5 meters high, its root collar is 6.3 meters round and its crown is 20 meters wide.
The tree in the west is 33.7 meters high, its root collar is 6.7 meters round and its crown is 28.7 meters wide.
In May 1992, President Kim Il Sung said that though the trees have grown for a long time, they are not worm-eaten but green and it is important to take good care of them as they are registered as precious natural monuments of the country. And he had a photo taken against the background of the trees.
The gigantic Ginkgo trees are of great scientific significance and also add beauty to the Songgyungwan University, a historical building in the period of Koryo. -0-
