NCM CEO Highlights Saudi Arabia’s Leadership in Early Warning Systems, AI for Weather, Climate Risks

Jeddah, October 13, 2026, SPA -- National Center for Meteorology (NCM) CEO Dr. Ayman Ghulam highlighted Saudi Arabia’s leadership in developing early warning systems, strengthening coordination among relevant authorities to address weather phenomena, and deploying artificial intelligence and modern technologies to enhance preparedness for climate-related risks.
He made the remarks while representing Saudi Arabia at the second Arab Regional Forum on Early Warning Systems and Disaster Preparedness in Tunis, which also brought together delegates from Syria, Morocco, and the Lebanese Republic.
Ghulam noted that the NCM had strengthened the Kingdom’s early warning capabilities by developing an integrated system for monitoring, forecasting, risk assessment, and immediate dissemination of weather alerts. The NCM has also upgraded its alert mechanisms and linked them to authorities responsible for emergency and disaster management, while enhancing data exchange through digital platforms and communication channels.
He stressed the importance of developing specialized national expertise in meteorology and data science, advancing climate services, evaluating systems, conducting drills and simulation exercises, and continuously improving performance. These efforts support the development of an integrated, impact-based early warning system.
