Iran honors Italian translator and commentator of Hafez’s Divan

London, IRNA — Minister of Agriculture Jihad Gholamreza Nouri-Ghezeljeh, who has traveled to Rome to take part in international food security programs, honored the scientific and cultural services of Professor Giovanni Maria D’Erme, the late professor of the University of Naples and translator and commentator of Hafez’s Divan into Italian, at a ceremony commemorating Hafez.

During the ceremony, which was held in the presence of Iran’s Ambassador to Italy, a gift was presented to Professor D’Erme’s son, and his efforts in introducing Hafez’s poetry and Iran’s literary heritage to the Italian community were appreciated.

Addressing the event, Nouri Ghezeljeh praised the services of Iranologists and those active in introducing Iranian culture and literature in Italy.

Professor Giovanni Maria D’Erme was one of the prominent professors of Persian language and literature at the University of Naples, who devoted an important part of his scientific activities to research on Iran’s classical literature.

Published between 2004 and 2008, the translation and three-volume commentary of Hafez’s ghazals into Italian is considered one of his most important scholarly works.

Meanwhile, Giacomo Longhi, a researcher and translator of Persian literary works into Italian, delivered a speech on ways to expand Persian language education.

Nouri-Ghezeljeh traveled to Rome at the invitation of the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to participate in the World Food Day ceremony and the 54th session of the Committee on World Food Security.
