Araghchi, Iraqi PM hold talks on sidelines of OIC summit in Baghdad

Tehran, IRNA — Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi have met in Baghdad to discuss bilateral and the latest regional developments.

Araghchi and al-Zaidi met on Saturday on the sidelines of the 52nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Baghdad and held talks on bilateral and regional developments.

The Iranian foreign minister stressed the importance of using the OIC’s capacity to address issues facing the Muslim world, particularly Palestine, and called for further expansion of Iran-Iraq relations.

The two sides also discussed regional peace and stability, with Araghchi stressing that Israeli occupation and expansionism are the main sources of insecurity in West Asia.

The talks also covered the Saudi–Yemeni conflict, ways to help end the maritime blockade on Yemen, and efforts to reduce tensions.

The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Baghdad on Saturday to take part in the event and is scheduled to address the meeting and hold bilateral talks with his counterparts from Islamic countries.
