Speaking at a ceremony at the University of Tehran on Monday, Soemirat reaffirmed the Indonesian government and people’s support for Iran, expressing hope that the war would end soon and normal life and activities would resume.
The official added that recent developments in West Asia have once again demonstrated how fragile peace and stability are and how their consequences extend beyond the region.
The Indonesian ambassador stressed that his country opposes the use of force and any action that undermines national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Soemirat also called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, prevent further escalation and prioritize dialogue and diplomacy, stressing that lasting peace cannot be achieved through military means and that international law must be applied consistently.
Turning to Palestine, Soemirat described the issue as a key test of the credibility of the international system, reaffirming Indonesia’s support for an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the two-state solution, international law, and relevant UN resolutions.
He added that multilateralism is a necessity rather than a choice and called for stronger international cooperation and more effective global institutions.
As the United Nations marks its 81st anniversary this year, he said the organization must focus on delivering results and upholding the rule of law rather than allowing powerful countries to act without restraint.
