Saudi Arabia Sets Roadmap for Joint Water Action from Cairo Water Week 2026 to 11th World Water Forum in Riyadh

Cairo, October 27, 2026, SPA -- Saudi Arabia is advancing regional and international water cooperation by translating dialogue into practical initiatives and effective partnerships ahead of the 11th World Water Forum, which Riyadh will host in March 2027.
This was highlighted during a panel session at the Cairo Water Week 2026 side events, attended by Deputy Minister for Water at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture Dr. Abdulaziz Alshaibani, and the Saudi delegation. Titled "From Cairo to Riyadh: Turning Water Dialogue into Action at and beyond the 11th World Water Forum," the session laid the groundwork for the forum, which Riyadh will host in March 2027.
Discussions focused on aligning the five themes of Cairo Water Week 2026 with the six themes of the 11th World Water Forum, identifying practical solutions to shared challenges, with stakeholders' participation. The session reflected this year's Cairo Water Week theme, "Water as a Catalyst for Peace, Shared Prosperity and a Sustainable Planet," and the forum's theme, "Action for a Better Tomorrow."
The session discussed key topics, including water diplomacy, regional cooperation, water security, water reuse and desalination, climate change adaptation, digital innovation, sustainable financing, and governance frameworks to ensure the effective implementation and continuity of solutions. It also provided a platform for exchanging Arab, African and international expertise and engaging stakeholders in shaping the forum's agenda.
This session concluded with the presentation of "Cairo Messages to Riyadh for Action," outlining shared priorities, partnership opportunities and practical steps to guide preparations for the forum. The messages emphasized clear responsibilities, measurable implementation pathways and continued coordination to translate dialogue into tangible commitments that advance water security, peace and shared prosperity.
The session marked an important milestone in connecting Cairo and Riyadh, highlighting the importance of aligning Cairo Water Week 2026 priorities with the forum's outcomes and translating international consensus on shared water challenges into actionable solutions that advance water security and sustainable development for future generations.
Separately, during a session titled "Water in the Arab Region: Partnerships for Peace and Sustainable Development," Saudi Arabia highlighted its efforts to reinstate the Arab regional process as one of the four main regional processes of the 11th World Water Forum, following its absence from the previous two editions. The initiative received broad recognition from Arab countries and international organizations partnering through the Arab Ministerial Water Council, whose contributions played a significant role in achieving this milestone.
