473 Events Finalised For 2027 SEA Games Hosted By Malaysia
PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), Oct 30 (Bernama) -- A total of 473 events across 43 sports have been finalised for the 2027 SEA Games, which will be hosted by Malaysia next year.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president Nur Azmi Ahmad said the decision was reached during the third meeting of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) Executive Committee (2025–2027), which was attended by presidents and representatives from member nations via an online conference today.
“So far, so good (regarding the response from member nations). I gave them the opportunity to ask questions, but they were very clear about the decision… there were no comments regarding the sports selected,” he told reporters shortly after the meeting concluded here Friday.
Of the 43 sports, Nur Azmi noted that five sports which had been the subject of appeals were approved for inclusion in the 34th edition of the Games namely padel, dancesport, teqball, ice hockey, and kabaddi.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rashid Yaakub, chief executive officer of the 2027 Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC) Secretariat, confirmed that padel will be contested within the Kuala Lumpur cluster, while dancesport will take place in Sarawak.
Abdul Rashid added that six countries have expressed interest in participating in padel, which will make its debut at the biennial multi-sport event.
The 2027 SEA Games will be held across four clusters, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor, and Penang, from September 18 to 29 next year.
